Helping With a Cure

Statistically, 1 out of 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. While being diagnosed with breast cancer may not be as physically devastating as it once was, the diagnosis can have devastating effects on the emotional and the financial well-being of the patient and the patient's family. Through this website, you can help ease the financial burden of someone being treated for breast cancer.

My Story

Hello and thank you for visiting this website. My name is Kay. I am married with three beautiful children. I am a school teacher for a local school district in Houston. In June of 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The medical term for what I have is Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. It basically means that I have a cancerous mass in my breast that likes to spread to other parts of the body. In fact, it has already spread to a lymph node under my arm. Getting to the diagnosis was emotionally and financially draining – doctor appointments, mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, and the final diagnosis. After the diagnosis, I was thrown into a whirlwind of information, doctor exams, and insurance roadblocks. It has only been one month since I found out about my cancer and I have managed to accumulate thousands of dollars in medical bills despite the fact that my health insurance company has denied many of the staging tests that my doctors have ordered. I have not even started my treatment yet and I am left feeling scared and stressed about the financial burden that I have caused my family.
